Why are we drawn to books like Anne of Green Gables, Pride & Prejudice, and the Little House series? And what treasures can we take from those simpler times to enrich our lives today? Enjoying the routine and busyness that come with homemaking can seem like an Instagram fairytale at times. Especially with when we feel caught in a web of laundry, anxiety, and to-do lists. Where do we start with simplifying our lives? Is it possible to be productive and find your joy in homemaking again? Join me as I find inspiration from our favorite books on practical, whimsical ways to bring laughter & peace to our homes.

Each day is a gift, not to be wasted. But so often we hit the ground running, stressed and already behind. Getting up early, before the rest of the household, helps us start our mornings gracefully, plan for the day, and most importantly, focus our hearts on Jesus. Not a morning person? Learn to look forward to mornings with Happy Little Sigh’s literary-inspired devotionals.

What a beautiful little site you have here, Avonlea. I found it just now as I was browsing through the WP Gardening feed. I’ll look forward to reading bits and pieces of your blog every morning this week as I sit for my morning cup of tea. And by the way, I love your name! Avonlea is a beautiful name.
Grace & blessings!

We lived in England for 3 years while I was in the USAF and I was surprised that it required a modest readjustment when we returned home. I can only imagine what the transition is like for your family.

It is amazing, isn’t it? People ask, and I can only say it is 1,000 little things that make the two places different. Yes, the scenery, the culture, the food, the houses, but also more. Something different about the way people live and see life. Especially if you are in a small village like we were. Thanks so much for the comment!
