Avonlea Q. Krueger blames her love of books and travel on her parents, who first named her after a fictional town in a book (yes, Anne of Green Gables!), then moved her to five different states before the age of eight. After spending the rest of her childhood in Midwestern America, Avonlea went on to study at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, where she met her husband and began her ties with the British Isles. Since her university days, Avonlea has traveled to more than twenty countries outside of the USA. After eight years of living in a stone house in a quiet Scottish village, she and her husband, their four young sons, and their daughter recently adopted from Colombia, are finally mostly adjusted to life in the States. They are enjoying (surviving?) their adventures in homeschooling and remodeling their rambling brick Italianate house, for their biggest DIY project yet. Seeking to find and create beauty in the everyday moments of life.

What a beautiful little site you have here, Avonlea. I found it just now as I was browsing through the WP Gardening feed. I’ll look forward to reading bits and pieces of your blog every morning this week as I sit for my morning cup of tea. And by the way, I love your name! Avonlea is a beautiful name.
Grace & blessings!

We lived in England for 3 years while I was in the USAF and I was surprised that it required a modest readjustment when we returned home. I can only imagine what the transition is like for your family.
It is amazing, isn’t it? People ask, and I can only say it is 1,000 little things that make the two places different. Yes, the scenery, the culture, the food, the houses, but also more. Something different about the way people live and see life. Especially if you are in a small village like we were. Thanks so much for the comment!
